The Sentient Mushrooms are a race of intelligent fungus that lives in hive minds in the Hollow Earth. One of its members, Myc Cellium, works at Cognito Inc. to produce mind-erasing toxins.

History

The mushroom hive is a species of psychic fungi that came to Earth on an asteroid millions of years ago. The mushroom flourished and thrived, but then, an early primate devoured one and the fungus psychoactive properties unlocked its higher consciousness, giving them intelligence. Now evolved, this hominids became Earth's dominant species and the apex predator to the mushrooms. To avoid extinction, the hive mind flee to the Hollow Earth, dreaming of retaking the surface once again by overthrowing humanity.

Deep underground, this mushrooms developed a social structures, like high schools. Some year in the 21st century, one of its members, Myc Cellium, exiled himself from the hive mind and traveled to the surface, where he eventually joined the Cognito Inc. by letting they use his psychoactive mucus to produce mind-erasing fluids.

In the year 2022 CE, the hive mind held their 5000º high school reunion, that counted with the presence of Myc and his human team from Cognito. Still wanting revenge from humans, the hive mind tried to used the team to spread their spores on the surface, by their plans were foiled by Myc.

Society

The mushrooms society is based in the concept of hive minds. After they graduate from high school, a process also present in human civilization, they join in one of the sub hive minds, but seems to be also connected to a greater consciousness that rules the colony.
